Our Philosophy
New Sprout Child Care Centre is committed to providing a play-based, inclusive, safe and nurturing environment where children are free to explore and grow at their own pace.
The image of the child is essential in providing quality care at New Sprout. We view children as capable individuals.
Our role as educators is to let them take the lead and guide them through their journey. Therefore, we take on a child-led learning approach where children lead the pace and direction of their learning.
Instead of letting them do whatever they want, we believe that child-led learning means we care about how they feel, acknowledge their needs, respect their opinions, empower them, share joy with them, set safe boundaries, and notice what they notice. Each individual is treated with respect and their uniqueness is cherished and valued.
Our philosophy revolves around the belief that children learn best through play. Play-based learning is not only fun to participate in, it’s also pleasant to implement, while teaching children all the necessary skills and knowledge needed to thrive in their future endeavors.
We are dedicated to providing an authentic play-based learning environment. We believe that kindergarten readiness does not need to be taught with formal instructions. Everything that the children do, as small as picking up a bean in a bowl, as big as making a fortress, as simple as humming a tune and as complicated as reading a book, each activity is a learning opportunity and there is always something that the children can learn from.
While learning a new language can seem daunting and difficult for an adult, acquiring a second language in the early years can be fun and effortless within a playful environment that involves fun activities, songs, stories and cooking!
Today, more than half of the world population are bilingual speakers. Research indicates that the significant influence of learning bilingual in early years not only shows in social emotional development but also in cognitive development.
Study suggests that speaking Mandarin uses more brain power and involves both side of temporal lobes while English speakers only use left. As one of the most difficult languages to pick up, learning in the early years provide a strong foundation for building systems.
Being bilingual will provide them with new opportunities. We hope to nurture open-minded global citizens who have increased cultural awareness, and will positively impact the world.
While it is true that children learn essential skills and knowledge from us, we also believe that learning is reciprocal – we are constantly learning unique qualities that each of them carry.
We say that it takes a village to raise a child, the active involvement and open communication between the families and our Centre is very important in creating a safe learning environment for the children. Together, we can raise lifelong learners that will thrive in their exciting adventure of life.
We are blessed to be bound by nature and living in a peaceful and beautiful environment.
In order to protect our environment, we take small steps to be environmentally friendly and pride ourselves in making sustainable choices, and teach children the importance of taking care of our environment while reflecting and making changes to our own behaviour.
Small steps lead to giant leaps. There is no such thing as kindness too small – recycle a piece of paper, choose local foods whenever we can, plant edible gardens in the backyard, and many more.
Plant a seed of sustainability today and we hope the children can harvest and maintain a beautiful future.
